What To Expect During Your Breast Augmentation Consultation

Dr Gillett will meet with you at your consultation to discuss your expectations and see how closely they match your natural physique.  It is important for you to speak to your surgeon instead of a nurse or salesperson, as this will allow you to get to know the person carrying out the procedure and give you the opportunity to have your questions answered.  Dr Gillett will explain the surgery to you and analyse your proportions and skin type.  You will then have the option of “trying on” implants and discussing with him what size is best for you.  Every patient is unique, so your procedure will be tailor-made to meet your needs and suit your natural shape.

The initial consultation will include information about the most important considerations and restrictions, as well as all the involved costs. You will be given information about the procedure to peruse.  The estimate given will include the costs for a specialist anaesthetist, the hospital charges, implant cost and all appointments that are required pre and post operatively.

FAQS About Breast Augmentation Procedure

You should bring some loose comfortable clothes to wear home when you leave the hospital. If a postsurgical garment is required this will be supplied at the time of surgery.

You will awaken after the operation with light dressing on each breast. There is usually no need for a drainage tube. If a drain is required it is removed the day after surgery. The stitches are under the skin and are dissolvable so there is no need for their removal. You will be discharge from the hospital either later the same day or the following morning.

Please do not shower or get the dressings wet for the first 48 hours. Then you may have a quick shower and gently pat dry the paper tape dressings. Alternatively you may dry the dressings with a hair dryer set on a cool setting.

An augmentation stabilizer will be given to you whilst in hospital if this is necessary. If a stabilizer is required we recommend you wear it continuously for the first two weeks (you must remove it for showering) and as much as possible for the following 6 weeks.

Quite often discomfort is felt with movement and your anaesthetist will provide you with instructions regarding pain medication and a prescription if necessary.

We do not recommend purchasing new bras for the first six weeks after the operation, as it generally takes this time for the swelling to subside. No under wire bras are to be worn during this period.

First Post

Operative Appointment

We will see you in the rooms 4 – 7 days after your operation. At this stage we will check your progress, trim the ends of the dissolvable sutures and replace a light dressing.

Second Post Operative Appointment

Your next post operative visit will be approximately one week after the first visit. The dressings are again changed at this visit. Expect to have some bruising and swelling – the amount you have is individual. This will settle over the following few weeks.

Rest is very important after your operation. We recommend no heavy lifting or strenuous exercise for six weeks after your breast augmentation. We recommend that you do not drive for the first 1-2 weeks post surgery as this may be uncomfortable.
